Porvenir is the provincial capital of Tierra del Fuego. Its site, initially occupied by a simple police detachment, then saw the arrival of a new population, mainly from Croatia and Yugoslavia. Attracted by the discovery of gold in Tierra del Fuego, they settled in Porvenir from 1894. The French adventurer Eugene Pertuiset also stayed in the region in search of the precious metal. From the Fernando Cordero Rusque Museum, with its archaeological collection, to the lighthouse, located on Chilota Bay, and the famous Gold Route with its many legends, Porvenir has its share of activities and discoveries.
