To get to this small Andean town, one passes through the Las Raices tunnel, which was once a railroad. Lonquimay is located on the eastern side of the pre-cordillera, on the other side of the volcano range. Las Raices is the longest tunnel in the Andes (4,528 m) and the second longest tunnel in South America. The layout of Lonquimay is very original: the streets form ellipses in relation to the central square. Lonquimay is surrounded by Pehuenche communities, a mountain people who are part of the Mapuche community. The latter is gradually opening up to tourism and offers to learn about its local rites. In a few days, you will be able to immerse yourself in a rich and diverse culture. Visit the national reserve of Malalcahuello, walk the Piedra Santa trail and admire the majestic trees of the Sierra Nevada: landscapes as majestic as they are preserved.
