MERCADO CENTRAL

Chilean restaurant
3.6/5
7 reviews

On the menu: fish and seafood, of course, but also empanadas and other typical Chilean dishes. The best known local is Donde Augusto, but be careful, however, avoid restaurant employees who will insist on offering you a table. Some restaurants serve dishes at unreasonable prices. Others, a little less central, offer dishes that are often cheaper and just as good. Don't hesitate to get lost in the alleys in search of more authentic and less "tourist trap" addresses.

AMBROSIA BISTRO

Chilean restaurant €€
4/5

Carolina Baza, a Chilean chef trained in Paris, offers creative cuisine inspired by the concept of bistronomy. Prices are low for the quality offered, and the staff are very attentive. You'll eat great crab pasta, lamb stew, beef cheeks and the tiramisu is one of the best in town! If you're tempted by everything and don't know what to choose, the waiters offer excellent advice. Don't forget to pair your dishes with one of the remarkable wines on offer. The chef also owns Ambrosía, a restaurant on the Vicatura side.

PELUQUERIA FRANCESA

French cuisine restaurant €€
4/5
1 review

This historic building hides quite a story behind its evocative name: that of the Peluquería Francesa, a hairdressing salon run by the French from 1868 until the 1990s! All sorts of antiques and trinkets are on display inside, ensuring you a most immersive setting in the heart of the last century. On the kitchen side, we serve tablas, salads, quiches, ceviches, pancakes and rather more elaborate and prepared dishes such as fish, seafood and meat. It's crowded at the weekend.

BAR NACIONAL

Chilean restaurant
4/5
1 review

The workers in the centre of Santiago have long since adopted this small, lively place that serves very good Chilean casera (home-made) cuisine: lomo a lo pobre, caldo de gallito, empanadas... at prices that are, after all, honest. The lunch menu is a good choice, quite correct and at a low price. A good option to blend in with the daily life and discussions of the locals. The establishment has three other addresses in the neighborhoods of Las Condes, calle Matias Cousino 54 and calle Bandera 317.

PATIO BELLAVISTA

Fusion restaurant and international cuisine €€
3/5
2 reviews

This gastronomic, cultural and social area is home to numerous restaurants, cafeterias, bars, but also art, craft and fashion boutiques and even a theatre. From time to time, the restaurants welcome musicians or dancers for a lively bohemian atmosphere. The terraces are all the more pleasant in summer: in short, we like the setting! The menus have a lot of choice and the tables are varied (Peruvian, Arabic, Chilean, French...), not always excellent, but the overall level is very good.

EL VENECIA

Chilean restaurant
1/5
1 review

A Chilean picada of character, in the old neighborhood of Bellavista, which has been around for 70 years. You can enjoy a good home-made cuisine, "from grandma's house" in a typical decor. It is rich and copious to say the least: pork ham(pernil de cerdo), charquicán, lentejas (lentils), fried fish and its Chilean salad, copious sandwiches... The waiters have a smile and the prices are reasonable. The famous Pablo Neruda used to eat there: why not you? It is better to pay in cash than by card.

LOS VIKINGOS

Meat restaurant €€

If the Viking longships had reached the Chilean coast, their occupants would undoubtedly have set up a tavern like this! In an exquisite setting dominated by helmets, swords, spears and shields, you take your place in elaborate leather seats before voraciously examining the menu. The menu features grilled meats (entrecôte, baby ribs and a Thor burger!), as well as an excellent paella. All to be washed down with ice-cold beers!

BLUE JAR

Americas Caribbean cuisine

Just a stone's throw from the Plaza de la Constitucion, the Blue Jar is the place to be. White-tiled walls, a vast room in the center of which sits a dark wooden bar surrounded by tall, vintage chairs - that's the decor. The atmosphere is that of a popular canteen, a no-frills brasserie populated mainly by locals. When it comes to food, there's plenty to choose from: bagels, toast, sandwiches, empanadas, croquetas, burgers, lasagne, soups, grilled fish, beef fillets or salad, not forgetting the hearty "ounce" and desserts. Yummy!

QUEL BRAVO RAGAZZO

In 2022, the neighborhood inaugurated Chile's first paninoteca! Paninis, the famous Italian sandwiches, are the stars of this small local. Take a seat at the few tables on the terrace and let yourself be seduced by the tempting menu. Behind the stove, Italian chef Nicola Schincaglia offers speck, smoked prosciutto, mortadella with pistachios and pecorino cheese made from sheep's milk. We recommend you try the Quel Bravo Ragazzo menu, with three panini choices to try as you go.

LE BISTROT DE GAETAN

Chilean restaurant €€

Gaëtan and his wife (French people who lived in Tahiti) offer in this small brewery what is today considered one of the best tables at decent prices in Santiago. Rabbit with mustard, duck breast with honey, trout meunière, shrimps flambéed in pastis, homemade foie gras terrine, beef bourguignon... the French terroir has made the trip to the Chilean captain and it's all good! Crowded every noon and every evening, on the terrace or inside (reservation more than recommended)

BARANDIARAN

Peruvian restaurant €€

Year after year, this Peruvian restaurant is always full. It serves excellent Peruvian, chifa and international cuisine. Most of the dishes are based on sea products but the menu also offers meat, risottos and vegetarian dishes. The patio and the interior decoration are very tasteful: pre-Columbian art rubs shoulders with frescoes of traditional pirogues on the walls. The must? Sip a pisco sour cocktail outside on the terrace while enjoying the pool. A real little nugget!

SILVESTRE

Bistro and brasserie

It is certainly the best address in the neighborhood combining simplicity, fresh produce and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant is held by two Chilean chefs in love with fresh produce and creative cuisine, working with small producers in the region. The dishes are rich and surprising, sometimes inspired by French cuisine. It's a good idea for brunch, both original and rich! Sit on the outdoor terrace among the plants, the rustic and colorful decoration of the places. It's 100% recommended.

Renowned for its oyster beds and good fish, which guarantee freshness at all times. Located on the second floor of a charming renovated house, it serves oysters, lobster, camarones al pil pil, sea urchins and dishes with Spanish and Basque influences. The place is rather quiet and intimate, we appreciate the service and the dishes that compete with freshness and quality: all the cuisine reminds the flavors of the ocean, a real feast! Don't forget to drink a pisco sour.

TABERNA EL HOYO

Chilean restaurant

A typical picada very famous in Santiago, opened in 1912. One drinks terremoto (white wine, pisco and pineapple ice cream), of course, the emblematic drink of the place. You can also stay and eat and choose a plateada, an arrollado con papas, a carne mechada con puré or a cazuela de cerdo. In short, good Chilean dishes that fit your stomach! The place is often crowded and very lively, do not count on calm and privacy. A merry mess to eat with the local sauce.
