INDEPENDENCE DAY

Indian national holiday commemorating India's independence on August 15, 1947, when Lord Mountbatten, British Viceroy of India, transferred power to Nehru. It is a national holiday. Every year large-scale military parades are held in the capital, Delhi. The Prime Minister delivers a national speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort in Delhi. The televised broadcast of these parades and the speech are events very followed in the whole country, which vibrates then in unison of a fervent patriotic fiber.
