42 km from Kargil, on the road to Lamayuru. From Lamayuru, before reaching the Buddhist village of Mulbekh, you will have to cross the Namika Pass, which is 3,719 m high. Lost in the Wakha valley, Mulbekh reveals superb green landscapes, between barley fields and terraced crops. In addition to two monasteries, Serdung Gompa and Gandentse Gompa, a 9-metre high image of the Maitreya Buddha (or Future Buddha), carved into the rock, can be admired here. More than 1,000 years old, it lies in the Chamba Gompa, where you can also see beautiful frescoes.
