It is assumed that Colleville-Montgomery was a Merovingian or Carolingian domain, if not a Gallo-Roman domain renamed at that time. Indeed, the commune is on the route of the Roman road that linked Bayeux to Pont-Audemer, crossing the Orne estuary at the port of Bénouville. The importance of the church shows that, as early as the 12th century, the parish community was alive and well. But it is difficult to see today any evidence of the past. Whatever, we like its narrow streets, its renovated village center, its farm buildings, its dunes, its beach... This is where the men of Commander Kieffer of the4th Franco-British commando landed.
