At the gateway to Norman Switzerland and a stone's throw from the Grimbosq forest, Clinchamps-sur-Orne was an important village until the mid-19th century. The origin of its name comes from the Latin campus (land) preceded by clinos (slope). It's true that Clinchamps slopes gently down to the Orne valley, offering some lovely hilly, wooded walks along the way. Other attractions include the church of Notre-Dame de Clinchamps-sur-Orne, founded in the XIᵉ century on Gallo-Roman ruins and listed as a Monument Historique, the two main wash-houses and the one on the Chemin des Boutières, and the oratoire de la Vierge on the RD 41.
