The Takhat Keshgarh Sahib gurdwara is another sacred Sikh place of worship, arguably the most important after the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The town was founded in the late 17thcentury by the ninth Sikh Guru, Tegh Bahadur. Refusing to convert to Islam, he was later beheaded by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. It is possible to stay in gurdwaras (Sikh temples), always respecting custom and paying a donation. The city offers few accommodation options. The bus and train stations are 300 meters apart, and are located just outside town on the main road.
