24 km south of Amristar. Tarn Taran was founded in 1590 by Arjan Dev (fifth guru) in honor of Guru Ram Das. Inside the magnificent gurdwara is a large pool considered beneficial for the cycle of rebirths, but also believed to cure men of leprosy. The guru had created a leper colony here. It is a high place of Sikh pilgrimage. The 156 feet high minaret, erected in 1839, is a good example of Sikh architecture. Every amava (black moon), the birthday of the gurus, Baisakhi and Diwali, a festival is held here. The bazaar surrounding the temple is a pleasant visit.
