A museum known as the Magic House, with exhibits of varying degrees of interest, various sections such as anthropology and collections.
Founded in 1814, the "Magic House", as it is called, has, in addition to a charming interior garden, 36 rooms of unequal interest. Anthropology, geology, Bengali art, zoology, archaeology... There is something for everyone in this "catch-all" museum. One has the impression that a mad scientist wanted to archive the world in different, rather exhaustive collections. Only specialists will appreciate the fossils in the geological section or the plants in the botanical section. The others will be delighted by the collection of coins (50,000!), miniature paintings and textiles. The archaeological pieces are remarkable. Finally it is a museum which speaks very little about India itself, except for the anthropology section which, with about twenty large models, represents the main peoples by region. Unfortunately, the information dates from the 1960s and 1980s. This museum is more like a giant 19th century laboratory and the dusty display cases are reminiscent of high school chemistry classes. Too bad the admission fee for tourists is exorbitant... making it more than dispensable to visit. It's up to you to see!
Beyond this museum, you can visit St. Paul's Cathedral (open from 9am to 12pm and 3pm to 6pm). Completed in 1847, it is famous for its stained glass windows and played a very important politico-religious role as the leader of the churches of India, Pakistan, Burma, and Ceylon until 1970.
