It's one of the seven sacred cities of Hinduism, but apart from the Kumbh Mela, which attracts millions of pilgrims, it's a quiet city that offers visitors only limited interest: ghats and a handful of temples that shouldn't be the subject of a special trip.The Kumbh Mela takes place every twelve years in Ujjain. The next one will take place in 2028. Pilgrims and sadhus from all over the country come to bathe in the river and perform sacred rituals. Make sure you book your hotel or camp room as early as possible, and bear in mind that transport to Ujjain is very busy.
