5 kilometers southeast of Surendranagar. Behind a surrounding wall, this 12th-century princely town has remained intact. Inside, you'll wander through narrow lanes, discovering old houses with intricately carved balconies, seventeenth- and eighteenth-century havelis next to concrete houses built after the earthquake. Around the Ranak Devin temple, you can see the cenotaphs of the Wadhwan rulers of the Jalah clan. The Swaminarayan temple is also worth a visit. Dating from the early 20th century, with its multicolored paintings, it is a fine example of contemporary Hindu architecture.
