Until 1961, this 56 square kilometre enclave was Portuguese possession, along with Goa and Diu. First governed by Goa, this territory of the Union is now administered by the central government in Delhi. The town of Daman is divided by the mouth of Damao Ganga. In the north, Nani Daman (La Petite Daman) is a free zone for alcohol consumption. In the south, Moti Daman (la Grande Daman) is a fortified town where Portuguese churches are located. A few hours are enough to turn around the city of 36 000 inhabitants and taste the dry wine, a terrible palm wine (it's a joke but content in a pretty bottle).
