Petit Futé's opinion on OLD CITY
This maze of quiet lanes hides some charming red sandstone haveli. The old town of Bikaner counts a thousand haveli! It is possible to take a journey from 2 to 3 hours to admire a few.
Start at Goga Gate. On your left, there is a haveli with colourful murals. Take the direction of Dhada Chowk to admire Dan Ji Kothari Ki Haveli. From here, join Rangri Chowk, for the Haveli Des, which houses the Hotel Bhanwar Niwas. Built in 1927, it evokes the opulence of the local merchant classes. Return to your steps, to Banthio ka Chowk, then Mohta Chowk to the exit of the fort (north) and Jassusar Gate. Along the way, you will admire other haveli. They were merchants who built the ancient sanctuaries of the city (southwest of the old town).
