Ramdevra is a very popular pilgrimage site dedicated to Baba Ramdev, a local hero who lived in the 15th century and is considered by some to be an avatar of Vishnu. A great defender of the oppressed, capable of riding hundreds of kilometers in a day to save the widow and the orphan, Baba Ramdev is very popular among the lower Hindu castes. To attend the site's main pilgrimage, come in late August/early September. The alleys lined with souvenir stores and food stalls are full of visitors in traditional dress. Since many have never seen a foreigner, you will be the main attraction of the festival.
