Now a government palace built on a hilltop with a panoramic view of the Udaipur cityscape

Built at the end of the 19th century by Maharana Sajjan Singh, to make it his summer residence, this palace now belongs to the government. Open to the public since a few years, its visit is totally useless and the entrance fee exorbitant. Built on top of a hill, its only interest is to offer a panoramic view on the surroundings of Udaipur. From there, the view is superb, especially at the time when the sun sets. At the entrance at the foot of the hill is a small zoo.

Pour la vue seulement
Le Palais très délabré n'a aucun intérêt. La vue superbe sur Udaipur (à l'est) et sur le coucher (à l'ouest) justifient à peine l'arrivée pénible : il faut d'abord négocier un tuk-tuk pour s'y rendre depuis la vieille ville (150-200 r. Les rickshaws abusent car il y a beaucoup de touristes). Arrivés au pied du site, il faut faire la queue pour payer l'entrée (450 pour les étrangers) puis acheter une place (106 roupies) pour un 4x4 qui monte les 4km vers le palais (il faut faire la queue pour attendre un 4x4 qui monte puis une queue encore plus longue à la descente). Visible depuis le lac ou j'ai particulierement apprécié la ballade en bateau (fortement conseillée) notre guide locale nous l'a présenté comme le palais du vent vu sa situation sur les hauteurs de la montagne !
