Bundi is a charming little town of about 100 000 inhabitants, still preserved from mass tourism. It shelters old houses with colored facades in pastel tones, blue and yellow especially, decorated with frescos typical of the region and two fortresses in an advanced state of dilapidation. It also has some interesting stairwells (baoris) and a sumptuous cenotaph. Founded in the 12th century, the city remained independent until it became part of the state of Rajasthan in 1947. The fort, the palace and the Nawal Sagar Lake constitute a magnificent ensemble.
