ZAFFRAN

World cuisine restaurant €€€
4/5
2 reviews

A little hard to find, on the first floor of the Palace Heights Hotel, the restaurant is always full in the evening despite the passing of time. That's a pretty good sign. The service is impeccable and the decoration is pleasant with its bamboo slat blinds. The widely-spaced tables in the large dining room provide a certain intimacy. People come especially to the Zaffran for its delicious roasted meats. The marinated and grilled lamb chops are always a great success and delight demanding palates. Reservation recommended.

SARAVANA BHAVAN

Fancy a culinary trip to South India? This establishment is an institution and it is necessary to be patient before sitting down. You have to leave your name at the entrance and wait, wait... until you are called. On the menu, dosa, thali and succulent idli served with coconut chutney and spicy pickles. To quench your thirst, a selection of lassis and milkshakes. You can also buy chaat, snacks to nibble on, and pastries in the tiny refrigerated display case at the entrance.

THE BAITHAK

World cuisine restaurant €€
5/5
1 review

Created by two brothers, this establishment wishes to restore the spirit of the mogul baithak, in other words a convivial place where one meets in the evening with family or friends. The establishment, frequented by middle-class families, is as beautiful as it is good. The restaurant is located high up in the mountains and combines soft lighting, refined wood decor and professional service. The menu offers a wide choice of Mughal, Chinese and Tandooris specialities, with or without meat. We recommend the malai kofta and the tandoori chicken, which are copious and delicious.

KHAM COFFEE HOUSE

World cuisine restaurant

Our crush on Majnu Ka Tila. Nestled in the heart of the neighborhood's small shopping mall, this establishment is a neat and gourmet haven of peace. With its saffron walls, book shelf and wicker armchairs, it feels like home. The welcome is adorable and the cakes in the window are "homemade". A very good plan for a breakfast or a snack at a lower cost. Try the chocochip muffin, a muesli with fresh fruit and enjoy a REAL espresso. Also à la carte: lassi, choice of teas and home made lemonade. An ideal HQ!

SAN GIMIGNANO

Italian restaurant and pizzeria €€€

The setting of this Imperial Hotel restaurant is more reminiscent of an English private club bar than a charming Tuscan village. Nevertheless, it has a large number of regulars, as evidenced by the napkin rings displayed at the entrance. And its terrace is simply one of the nicest in town, with its wrought iron tables and chairs. The 100% Italian menu offers just-cooked pasta, thin-crusted pizzas, cold cuts from the Botte and some must-try dishes. All absolutely delicious.

CHOR BIZARRE

World cuisine restaurant €€

The name of this temple of Kashmiri gastronomy is a play on words referring to Chor Bazaar, the "thieves' market". It is true that the décor of the establishment, half flea market and half antique store, resembles a certain cave prized by forty thieves. Here, you can discover the ritual of the wazwan, a farandole of 36 dishes to be tasted in good company. For a more digestible overview, we recommend the buffet. The restaurant regularly updates its menu so that its regulars do not get bored.

THE SPICE ROUTE

World cuisine restaurant €€€

The refinement of the cuisine is equal to the decoration of this prestigious address. Comfortably installed in a hypostyle feng shui room, the customers have the impression of taking place in a South Indian temple. The menu follows the spice route through Asia from India to Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. All the dishes are exceptional and well balanced in terms of spices and spices. When the weather allows it, opt for the pleasant outdoor terrace. Reservations are recommended.

SHREE DELHI GUJARATI SAMAJ CANTEEN

World cuisine restaurant

This neighbourhood canteen, famous for its chutneys and pickles, offers unbeatable prices. No exoticism or completeness in the menu, but the basic flavours of Gujarat cuisine which is served without fuss in a very friendly atmosphere of bric-a-brac and broc. You will be able to revel in a thali gujarati or a plate of dhokla, a very old recipe based on crushed chickpeas and a paste made from fermented rice.

THE EMBASSY

World cuisine restaurant €€

With its wood panelling, velvet benches and subdued lighting, this restaurant has a false air of a London pub. But when it comes to the menu, you're in India! It offers a wide range of northern specialties, including solid kebabs, as well as a few Chinese starters. The lack of competition in the Civil Lines area causes a slight sloppiness in the plate. It's certainly good, but not exciting, especially at this price. Decent choice of wine, including imported wines and a very nice cocktail list, to be consumed with moderation!

OH ! CALCUTTA

World cuisine restaurant €€€

If you have not yet visited the capital of West Bengal, the cuisine served here is an excellent introduction. Fish specialties such as bekti are as fresh as they are fragrant. The kosha manhsho, a lamb curry, is also worth trying. For dessert, you can try the payesh, a kind of pudding with a strange texture, which is very digestible with tea. The service is professional, the setting refined and peaceful. If you have some money left at the end of your stay, don't hesitate to spend it here

CAFE FESTA

World cuisine restaurant

Between two shopping trips, this small vegetarian café has a cosy atmosphere with its wooden tables and wicker armchairs. You can enjoy an Indian, Chinese or continental dish at a reduced price. Paneer tikka and vegetable pakora are good for a simple snack while the festa special thali satisfies the big appetite. The milkshakes and lassi are so creamy that you can finish them with a spoon! As far as hygiene is concerned, no worries: the waiters sing while passing the sponge on the tables and, behind his counter, the old manager watches over the grain.

AL JAWAHAR

World cuisine restaurant

With this restaurant, named in honor of Nehru, begins the corner of Mughal specialties. If some people prefer it to its competitor Karim's, it is because it is less crowded but mostly because it belongs to a family of butchers who choose better, it seems, the pieces of meat... Here, each meal has its own dish: at breakfastthe egg curry, at lunch the mutton nihari, while at dinner it's time for the very spicy kebabs. However, for the more accustomed palates, the biryani is not up to the mark.

This strictly vegetarian restaurant is located within the gigantic Lotus Temple complex, on the edge of ISKCON Temple Road. No need to venture too far to find it. The cuisine served is based on the repertoire of the south of the country and works wonders with simple ingredients. KHAN CHACHA

World cuisine restaurant

If there's a queue in front of this little sign, nothing could be more normal: it's the ransom of success! The kekabs and rolls are so good that they deserve a little patience. The concept includes roasts or bread patties stuffed with vegetables or marinated meats. We advise you to succumb to the chicken tikka roll unless a big hunger leads you to a biryani. The purists have found fault with the purchase of this canteen by the Mughlai chain. They take refuge in the nearby Rule The Rolls, which is run by the sons of Khan Chacha.

INDIAN ACCENT

World cuisine restaurant €€€

Opened since 2009, this restaurant still holds the top spot and is considered by many to be the best restaurant in the capital. The chef, who has learned his trade in the great hotels of Asia, revisits Indian cuisine by pulling it upwards. Here, the combinations of spices are subtle, the cooking perfectly mastered and the flavours confusing, but exciting. The room echoes the modernity and elegance of the plates: sand and gold tones, enhanced by a few works of art. Reservation required.

BARBEQUE NATION

Indian restaurant €€

The vegetarian or carnivorous grill temple welcomes its guests in a pleasant retro-character frame. The restaurant, with its buffet formula, will vary the dishes, but you will always find chicken, shrimp, fish, paneer or roasted peanuts. On tables, sauces and condiments are ready to accompany your dishes. Some evenings, servers and chefs invest the scene and sing some songs to entertain customers. Ambiance club, but in the restaurant!

PIND BALLUCHI

Indian restaurant €€

Impossible to miss the door of the entrance of this restaurant with the doorman proudly displaying a majestic glossy moustache and a suit worthy of the greatest Rajput warriors. Inside, the setting is kitschy. A dark pirate cave atmosphere, a tree planted in the center of a pasteboard rock, 3D murals, shards of mirrors and adobe walls decorated with naïve paintings mix genres. However, the restaurant serves excellent North Indian cuisine with tasty curries and spicy kebabs.

VARQ

Indian restaurant €€€

The Taj Mahal, with its image of luxury and excellence, is going all out. The setting mixes sumptuous pieces of ancient art with modern furniture and lighting. The clash of eras and flavors also occurs on the plate. If the menu seems to propose classic dishes, the visual, olfactory and gustatory reality is quite different. The name chosen refers to the edible gold leaf, struck so finely that it can barely be felt on the tongue. And when it comes to finesse, the chef knows how to do it.

SODA BOTTLE OPENER WALA

Indian restaurant €€

The Parsis, who came from Persia many centuries ago, settled in Bombay. Until the opening of the "Soda Bottle Opener" it was here that one could enjoy the best Iranian influenced cuisine. But now Delhi is trying to steal the spot from its enemy sister. You can try the berry pulao, a rice served with meat and berries or the roast mutton with Parsi spices. We also loved the setting, which revives an old cafe with bistro tables, woodwork and mirrors.

GULATI

Indian restaurant €€

This legendary restaurant has the reputation of serving the best biryani and kebab in Delhi. And it's been going for 40 years! The setting has been recently renovated and Delhiites are flocking to the place which is vaguely reminiscent of American diners. A bench runs along the wall of the room, while on the other side there are "corners" for 6. A must to get acquainted with the cuisine of the country or simply to enjoy dishes that have been forgotten elsewhere. The service is efficient, but you often have to be patient.
