Once a very important religious center, Tameslohte is now a country town with a population of nearly 20,000. Nestled in the plain, it is beautifully surrounded by orange and olive groves. Its two zaouïas, forbidden to non-Muslims, were built by the sheriff Abdallah ben Hussein el-Hassani, who founded the city in 1566. Legend has it that this sheriff, considered a holy man, mastered 366 sciences! Today, pottery is one of the main activities of the city. A cooperative transports its production once a week to the souks of Marrakech. A picturesque souk animates the city on Friday.
