It is here that many scenes of the film Tea in the Sahara were shot. The village of Tamnougalte was the capital of the Mezguita tribe, an important Berber tribe. The ksar was used to defend the Drâa valley against invasions by looters. Tamnougalte was a strategic center of the caravan routes between Marrakech and Timbuktu. You will see, on your left and in height, a first kasbah. This is where the military had settled during the colonial period. Further on, the kasbah of the Caïd is very well maintained, and you will get lost in its corridors with pleasure. The view from the terraces of the kasbah is superb.
