This town of nearly 130,000 inhabitants is located about thirty kilometers southeast of Larache, in the large river valley of Loukous. The land is fertile and the town lives mainly from agriculture, including cereal and berry production. There is nothing left of the fortress built at the time of the Almoravids, but the village attracts people thanks to its Sunday souk, one of the largest weekly souks in the region. The town is also famous for its delicate dishes such as dolma, a meat dish served with stuffed vegetables, or mezgueldi, chicken cooked with honey-cooked onions.
