Ouazzane's medina is as ochre as its neighbor Chefchaouen's is blue... Considered a holy city by Muslims since Moulay Abdallah, it is still a place of pilgrimage today. In 1727, an important religious brotherhood (the Taïbia) settled here when the Cherif Moulay Abdallah created a zaouïa, which was later joined by several branches throughout the Maghreb. It became a powerful religious and political force, and held sway for centuries. We recommend a stop at the sar Sqaf, the oldest part of the medina, and the Aouia mosque, with its octagonal minaret.
