This place is simply perfect for eating, relaxing, socialising and even working. At La Mie Paulette, we are not only in a bakery, but in a real place of life where we feel at home. Pauline and Franck knew how to make these 500m2 warm, and our visit at Christmas literally made us travel. As for the artisanal products, breads, cakes, and their specialty "Trobons" of Alice are already a treat for the eyes. Not to mention the pizzas cooked in an oven from Verona!

D'oh! Donuts in Normandy! Yes, but compared to Homer Simpson's, these are artisanal and vegan friendly! No lactose, no eggs, organic, local, made on site by Melissande, natural flavors and lots of deliciousness! On the menu, over twenty flavors (chocolate, sugar, apple cinnamon, cookie cream, choco crunch...) and seasonal recipes to keep an eye on on social networks. Top it all off with savoury recipes and disco balls (bite-sized snacks you can nibble on with your eyes closed), and you've got it all!

LE P’TIT CHOU NORMAND

4.7/5

Ah, that P'tit Chou, what would we do without it and its specialty: the famous petit chou topped with an old-fashioned pastry cream, so light and tasty that it never weighs down the stomach, just like its price. At lunchtime, you can eat for a pittance! As for the famous brasillé, go early to be sure to enjoy it. As for the bread, the baker has mastered his trade, and we're sure to fall for the classic Normande, the "tradi" seeds or the corn bread. 100% homemade!

ALBAN GUILMET

While the store on rue Saint-Jean is more centrally located, it doesn't have a bakery (yum... lemon or chocolate cake!), nor any delicious savory treats. But the sweets it does offer - chocolates and, more specifically, macaroons (veritable culinary masterpieces) - are just as fabulous as those on boulevard Yves-Guillou. In summer, we love the ultra-gourmet, refreshing pots glacés. As for the pastries, they're an ode to the sublime and to gourmandise, and we're particularly enamored of the lemon meringue tart. It's a no-brainer.

If you're one of those who are looking for the best pastry and chocolate maker when you arrive in a city, then Roussel's is the place to be. Roussel, formerly Radiguet, as the store's sign still emphasizes. There, you will discover pistachio tarts, chocolate shortbread, unpublished galettes des Rois, and swooning marrons glacés. And all this has been served for over 20 years with a smile and the delicacy of yesteryear. To take away or to taste on the spot, Roussel also makes tea room. Don't miss the strawberry tart or the Robinson with chestnut cream, speciality on demand! So yes, if you're a gourmet, Roussel's is the place to go.

PAINS BY MARCEL

Bakery

A modern, airy bakery: the store really makes you want to come in, and you are always well received, especially by the emblematic Odile. You especially want to taste everything. The bread, the pastries, the pastries, the salads, the pies, the sandwiches, the nibbles, the little dishes in jars (hum, the duck parmentier !)... Here, the hardest thing is to choose. The little extra, Marcel is open on Sundays. Thanks to its success, a second shop has opened on the Place Fontette, opposite the old court.

LE BOULANGER DE L'HIPPODROME

Bakery

At the Petit Futé, we like this bakery: artisanal production, organic bread with natural leaven, Olivier Gestin knows how to delight our taste buds with tasty recipes. From the traditional to the corn baguette and the country loaf, it's not easy to decide. Come in and you'll surely succumb! Even for a lunch, the choice will be difficult! And we are delighted to see it open on Saturday mornings, perfect for the little munchies when you get out of the pool!

LA VIENNOISERIE

Bread cakes chocolates ice cream

What strikes when returning: the hot bread and other pastries that license the taste buds! It's a direct appetite! At some hours you can easily reach the street to find a grignette (the choice is impressive!), a foccacia, apricot-pistachio pie or a rhubarb-strawberry decay. Here we are from father to son and we must say that the Woodcutter is a must. You buy it by weight! An address to savour, for all the gourmets!

AUX NORMANDISES

Welcome to grignette heaven! This miniature bread speciality, savoury or sweet, is as its name suggests, for nibbling at any time of day. Try the brasillé recipe, you won't be able to do without it! A loyalty card is available for the bread: once full, you get a free Tradition! In both the bakery and the patisserie, everything is fresh and tasty; the Courchevel, for example, is to die for. You'll also find a wide selection of sandwiches, quiches and drinks for lunch on the go.

AUX DELICES DE SAINT-JEAN

Bread cakes chocolates ice cream

Located rue Saint-Jean, as indicated by its name (please note, don't mistake it, it's the last right by going to the bridge), this pastry bakery actually reserves some delights, as its name also indicates. Start with bread: if you like cereals, the norlander is to test absolutely (it looks like vollkornbrot, but less tassé). Chopsticks, cereals or simple versions are also excellent: It would be a wish! Another wonder: the macaroons (certainly in the head tiercé of the best in Caen!). On the side of the pastry side, even if you don't play the card of refinement with regard to aspects, it's tasty and the little side of the "home made has its charm". If quiches and other pizzas also suffer from an unlikely aspect, you can make an option on sandwiches. A good plan for a small break, including at lunchtime, because there are high tables. If you are bored, you can always watch passers-by and other car drivers Rue Saint-Jean…

BOULANGERIE JOLIN

Bread cakes chocolates ice cream

Discover because they are a little out of the way. It is so rare to be as good baker as pastry. Special breads are eaten by simple greed: string in the seeds, païsou and above all the vollkornbrot of Saturday… The pastries are light and refined (Ah, the Saint-Mathieu with its light cream with praline accents and its or biscuit). For dinner on Saturday evening, salted fours (puff dough is all in finesse) and let them know that they are chocolate makers! Moreover, for receptions it is also an address to remember: small furnaces, salted and other pastries, make your choice!

CHARLOTTE CORDAY

Chocolatier

Jérôme is our Willy Wonka from Caen! In his chocolate factory, he likes to create unique recipes such as his Délices de Mathilde, his Bouchon Normand, without forgetting his Pommes Calvados. The Master Chocolatier offers more than 70 kinds of chocolate candies, more than thirty bars and many other sweets. For the anecdote, you should know that the store has a history: before leaving for Paris, Charlotte Corday really lived there in 1793 after the revolutionaries had closed the Abbaye aux Dames where she was a boarder.

If you're in the mood (and your stomach!) for a tasty snack, you're in for a treat every day of the week. And that's not counting the crêpes and waffles, the lollipops and the pommes d'amour... It was Karl Pasquier's son who had the brilliant idea of opening a store in Caen, before later developing a whole network. Hats off to him!

LA ROSE DE VAUCELLES

Bakery

Good bakeries are always a discovery, and with this one, we're on the verge of excellence! Freshly baked bread that smells delicious (the bûcheron and the nordique are to die for!), viennoiseries, pure butter brioches, but also a choice of savoury snacks for lunch breaks and, icing on the cake (in a bakery, that's not bad, by the way), oriental pastries, each more tempting than the last. All served with a smile, a kind word and sometimes, often even, a complimentary chouquette for the road. We want more!

BOULANGERIE GRAINES DE COPAINS

Bakery

A very good address held by two young passionate friends, Louis and Vincent put their heart into it with organic ingredients and a lot of brio! An oven, a kneading trough, leavening, a turn of hand and here is a nice range of special breads (Nordique, Richemond, Graines de copains) and pastries that will delight your taste buds! As for pastries, we focus on sobriety with classics (éclairs, seasonal tarts...). And we don't forget the small hungers with sandwiches and coffee!

BOULANGERIE LS VIVIEN

Bakery

What a stack! Vivien Le Sénéchal took over this bakery two years ago and remodeled it in his own image, whether it be the decor or the products and their quality. Here everything is fresh and homemade, from the mayo to the chicken cooked on the spot to the salted butter caramel. We recommend the zebra bread (with coal and corn) as beautiful as good or the macaroons. As for the croissants, they are to die for! Listening to his customers, he adapts to their requests to concoct new recipes like this cookie without hazelnuts or almonds. At the top!

TARTINES ET GOURMANDISES

Bakery

A bakery that stays busy from morning till night - doesn't that smell good? Both literally and figuratively! It's one of the best in Caen! Everything is delicious, from the Tradition to the honey sourdough baguette and the gluten-free recipe. There's also a wide choice of sandwiches, grignettes (sweet or savoury mini-ficelles), pizzas, quiches... On the sweet side, we fall for their pink praline brioche every time! And the viennoiseries, tarts, etc., are a real "killer". In short, it's hard to leave with only your baguette under your arm!
