With 25 editions in the past 25 years, the Freedom Marathon is the queen of the Freedom Runners over the mythical 42.195 kilometres. Carried by its duty to remember, the Freedom Marathon, sometimes nicknamed the D-Day Landing Beaches Marathon, often referred to as the Caen Marathon, has one of the most beautiful courses in France. During this event, the personal challenge is combined with the discovery of the high points of the Normandy Landings (D-Day Beaches, Casino de Ouistreham, Pegasus Bridge, etc.), making this intense moment of sport a real tribute to History.

practical information

date: the Freedom Marathon is organised on Sunday 14 June 2015. The start is given in the commune of Courseulles-sur-Mer while the finish is at the Caen memorial. The maritime and rural route, steeped in history, gives it, according to many runners, a very special symbolism.

registration date: on this marathon, runners can still register a few days before the race. For late registrants, however, make sure that you have all the necessary documents for your registration to avoid any last-minute problems.

maximum number of participants: the organizers of the Marathon de la Liberté have set the number of participants at 3,000, with 1,107 finishers in 2014. You should know that this race is one of the top 10 French marathons. With the other events organised at the same time, such as the half marathon or the 10 km race, the city of Caen lives to the rhythm of running for a weekend.

price: to take part in the Freedom Marathon, you have to count between 40 € and 50 €, depending on the date of registration. A rather reasonable rate given the good reputation of the race and the range of services offered to runners. 44 € from 1 February 2015 to 31 March 2015; 50 € from 1 April 2015 to 10 June 2015. The basic rate of €40 will be applied for students, jobseekers and people receiving RMI or specific solidarity allowances on presentation of proof.

The course

interest: Along the 42.195 km of the 42.195 km of the mythical D-Day Landing sites (D-Day Beaches, Casino de Ouistreham, Pegasus Bridge, etc.), the maritime and country route takes on a different meaning and makes the marathon, even more than usual, full of symbols and emotions. difference in altitude: on the Liberty Marathon, the difference in altitude is almost non-existent, and varies between 0 and 60 metres in altitude.

temperature: at this time of the year, it can still be quite cool in Normandy. Temperatures vary between 12°C and 18°C. When preparing your equipment, keep in mind that this is a seaside marathon, there is often wind.
