Mount Bjelašnica/Бјелашница (pronounced "bielachnitsa") occupies the southern part of Mount Igman, straddling the Sarajevo and Herzegovina-Neretva cantons. It is home to the Olympic resort of Bjelašnica. The latter is 5 km south of the station Veliko Polje, 25 km south of Ilidža and 28 km southwest of the old town of Sarajevo(via Krupac/Крупац). Bus connection: the resort of Bjelašnica is connected to Sarajevo once a day during the ski season: outbound from the Vijećnica at 8:30 am, return from the resort at 4 pm.The Bjelašnica massif owes its name of "white mountain" to the glacier that covers its northern part, facing Mount Igman. Marking the "border" between Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is dominated by four peaks: Bjelašnica (2,067 m), Krvavac (2,061 m), Mali Vlahinja (2,055 m) and Hranisava (1,964 m). In the eastern part is the ski resort of Babin Do, renamed "Olympic resort Bjelašnica" since the Sarajevo Olympics. It has the steepest slope in the country, where the men's downhill race took place in 1984. Due to the presence of military sites in the vicinity, the sports and hotel infrastructure was damaged by the Bosnian-Serb forces during the last war. But most of them have been rehabilitated and a modernization plan is underway since 2012. In summer, the massif is suitable for hiking, especially to discover the remote village of Lukomir and the Rakitnica canyon.
