Forming the Aléoutienne National Region, with the Nikolskoïé Administrative Centre (Bering Island), the Commander's Archipelago is located south of the Bering Sea, between Kamchatka Peninsula, to the west, and the Aleutian Islands to the east. It includes Bering Island (85 km out of 40), Medny Island (56 km out of 7), Toporkov Island and rock Pierre Buddhas (751 m high). The archipelago, where the oceanic grasslands and mountain tundra predominate, have intense volcanic activity. In valleys push sorbiers and dwarf birch.In the Bering Sea there are walruses and otters, animals that are certainly protected but whose fur is very precious… Of the five marine eels of existing walrus in the world, three are located in the islands of Commander, where they are protected in a state nature reserve extending over 30 nautical miles.
