Ola, 6,117 inhabitants, is a coastal village, a former transit village on the Kolyma Gold Road. It is located 35 km east of Magadan, in the rocky bay of Taui, at the mouth of the river Ola. It is one of the oldest Siberian settlements, which came out of the ground in 1716. From 1926, with the Kolyma Gold Rush, prospectors were sent there en masse, until 1928, causing a food shortage and an historic famine. The modern city is now home to an experimental agricultural station. Here you can admire a breathtaking subarctic landscape, characteristic of the ice-covered Sea of Okhotsk.
