Bouriate village located in the charming valley of the Ouda river, 60 km east of Oulan-Oude (1h30). Its former datsan (destroyed in the Stalinist era), housed a famous Lamaist medical centre. Atsagat is also the native village of Agvan Dorgiev, diplomat, reformer of Tibet and master of the 13th Dalai Lama. The 14th Dalai Lama visited the place in 1991, indicating the location of the new datsan, built in 1992. The small monastery is planted in the middle of a boundless wild steppe: in winter, the atmosphere is particularly enchanting. Finally, Atsagat shelters an astonishing ethnocomplex "Nomads of the steppes" where the Bouriates love to spend a few nights to find their roots.
