Extreme Igarka, located at 67° north latitude, on the right bank of the Yenissei River, 673 km from the Arctic Ocean. 5,500 people live and work there all year round, mainly around its port, the economic heart of polar Russia, specialising in the exploitation and transport of timber. School No. 1 welcomes the young Dolganes, Nganassanes, Kets, Nenets and Evenks of the region, who attend school here until the age of 14. The average annual temperature here is - 10 °C. In summer, the sun does not set for 52 days. As in winter, the polar night envelops you from December 10 to January 10 approximately, lit only by the electricity fairies and the Northern Lights. Igarka is also home to an important scientific station for studying permafrost.
