1,474 km north of Krasnoyarsk, at the confluence of the Yenisei and Lower Tunguska rivers. Surrounded by a wild and relentless nature, TURUKHAN SK is a mythical port. Located 200 km from the Arctic Circle, it is one of the oldest Cossack settlements in the Far North (it will replace the legendary Mangazeïa in the 18th century). The locality became the icy home of many political (and religious) exiles, including Stalin. The first cargo ship only docked there in 1954. Since then, it has been served by the Krasnoyarsk-Dudinka river line from June to October. The rest of the year, to access it, the plane is your only option. Its old wooden terminal building, flanked by its sickle and hammer, was destroyed in 2014. TURUKHAN SK has 4,600 inhabitants who are practically cut off from the world.
