Biysk (203,000 inhabitants) is the gateway to the Altai. All tourist routes through the massif start here, by train or bus. Connected to the Trans-Siberian Railway, Biysk is the terminus of the Altai-Biysk railway line. In 2020 it remains a poorly served city. Industrial and cultural centre of the Altai region, Biysk is located on the slopes of a high plateau. Part of the city lies on the left bank of the Ob river. Its right and left banks are connected by a reinforced concrete bridge. Every year, starting on 12 June, the Town Days are held, an occasion for numerous festivities. Biysk has no particular tourist interest, except for its proximity to the fabulous Golden Mountains.
