Bernières was a prosperous port thanks to the timber and stone trade from Caen, as evidenced by its noble residences. The vagaries of the climate having diverted the course of the Seulles and put an end to port activity, Bernières became a small seaside resort. Its immense beach is a delight for anglers, with its large rocks (" gas " in local dialect) exposed at low tide. It was also on this beach that the Famous, the French Canadians of the Chaudière regiment, landed on June 6 at around 8am. One of the vestiges of their bravery is the Maison des Canadiens on the beachfront, a charming place of remembrance.
