This park was created in 1963, but was completely refurbished since 1989 by a European project (European Development Fund), covering an area of 305 000 ha and full of animals typical of West and Central Africa. Its numerous ponds and rivers also make it a stop for migratory birds (370 bird species listed in 2010), which do not hesitate to spend a few months, sheltered from the northern rigueurs.Built on a friendly family model, the park offers an excellent African wildlife sample preserved from the tourist rush. when you see a lion, you will not repérerez it by the ten of 4 x 4 assembled around, but by the acuity of your eyes or those of your guide… Browse the different tracks of Zakouma constitutes a real pleasure in the line of authentic Africa, and it is not uncommon to see an elephant cross the camp of Tinga! The civil war has heavily encumbered the numbers of the wildlife, because the military, who have installed their base in the camp, have used the habit of firing on living targets, causing a real massacre…Elephants, the number of which had decreased from 2 000 to less than 200, took time before reinvesting the places with confidence… as well as graceful Kordofan giraffes, spotted hyenas hyenas, from malins, red front gazelles, red ostriches, red ostriches, red ostriches, tiang tiang and buffalo.Since October 2010, the park has been managed by the African Parks NGO.
