This large town is extremely busy in the dry season by the camels of camel and zébus who come to enjoy the Verts pastures of Salamat. The surroundings of the city are then flooded with ferriks (camps) from which the myriad of children, women and men are covered, happy to have successfully joined the fresh meadows allowing the life of the entire tribe. Traders also make a stop at Am Timan on the way to their central African transactions. But in the rainy season, all this beautiful world regains its move to the north, to leave an almost empty city, prey to the another of the sky and to the officials who are forced to stay in their post…Am Timan, whose name means the "mother of twins", in memory of the woman through which the city was founded, is also famous for its abundant wild fauna.Already, in the time of the colony, the city attracted many European bourgeois people who did not hesitate to embark on the adventurous journey for a good hunting game. But the civil war dispersed the animals, screams by the ak of fire that they were targeting. Nowadays, wildlife has begun a slow return to sources protected by the status of the Zakouma National Park, paradise of ponds, forests and streams. Even the elephants, in long memory, have returned hundreds to resettle in this new haven of peace.
