This beautiful granitic massif represents the heart of the zaghawa country. Reaching heights of 1 200 m, the mountains overlook narrow valleys invaded by ouadis, which can no longer be seen as the huge expanses of blond sand in dry season but still feed the herds of camels and sheep with wells dug in their bed. The picturesque scenes of water pumping, which are so precious within these hostile areas, are striking the lives of farmers, bringing our Western consumers into pastoral daydreams…The mass is divided into several sets; the most cut-off peaks and the most difficult valleys of access are located in the first two largest ranges, coming from the Piste trail.
