The large beach in the small commune of Bénerville-sur-Mer is none other than the extension of Deauville beach. Wilder than its neighbour, it runs partly along the Yves-Saint-Laurent boardwalk. The famous French fashion designer liked to come and recharge his batteries at the Château Gabriel, a sumptuous 19th century villa where the publisher Gallimard used to live. The destiny of Bénerville is also linked to one of the greatest collectors of 20th century art, Calouste Gulbenkian, who created a garden planted with rare species. On the heights, the batteries of Mont-Canisy, an important link in the Atlantic Wall, offer views of the Côte Fleurie.
