CHEMIN DE RANDONNEE W9
Petit Futé's opinion on CHEMIN DE RANDONNEE W9
From the car park at the entrance to the village of Misfah, follow the three yellow-white-red stripes marking the W9 trail. The path goes down into the hamlet and leads to a pond. A few steps further down, the path splits in two. On the right, a hike of about 6 hours, of good level and with quite a bit of difference in altitude, leads to the junction with trail W8 which leads to the village of Bilad Sayt in the heart of Wadi Bani Hauf. Even without doing this walk, take a few minutes on this path to go down into the wadi next to the village of Misfah and go back up opposite to have a panoramic view of the old hamlet clinging to its wall, half hidden by vegetation and dominated by the ruins of a hieratic defensive tower: a view and a 5-star photo! Alternatively, if you go left at the junction shortly after the basin, a pleasant one-hour round trip walk along the side of a green gorge, leads to the place where the water comes out of the ground to feed the falaj. The path is easy, even if the stones, polished by the many passages, are sometimes slippery. Do not hesitate, once you have reached the falaj, to walk directly along the edges of the falaj, which are about 20 centimetres wide, to experience the almost infantile sensation of walking in balance as if you were on the edge of a pavement, except that here the construction draws its origins from centuries ago. Yes, strolling along the falaj is a bit like capturing the essence of the sultanate, what gives it water: nourishing water channelled to bring life.
