A 5 km climb leads to a parking lot at the entrance of the village. Leave your car there, as the hamlet is only accessible on foot. Perched at an altitude of 1,000 metres, the village of Misfah is exceptional: all slopes and lanes, built into the mountainside with houses carved out of the rock. Rather than passing through on a whim, we recommend spending at least one night here, to take the time to wander through its alleyways, all of which overlook the irrigation system that feeds the "public showers" at the top and the date palms at the bottom. The charm of the babbling water and the freshness of this lively, inhabited oasis, planted with crops (notably lemon trees, for which the area is famous) and which every year grows a little more to welcome travellers. Originally with a single guesthouse at the bottom of the village (an ideal location for those who find it difficult to get around), Misfah now boasts several guesthouses at the entrance, before the arch leading to the narrow streets and plantations. Further developments are planned, as Misfah is the flagship of a new form of integrated tourism involving local communities. The most visited village in the Sultanate, Misfah is a charming place to sit and let time pass. It's also a pleasant place to walk (several signposted footpaths), especially along the aflaj and plantations, to capture attitudes and snippets of life.
