MISFAH OLD HOUSE

4.7/5

At the bottom of the old village, in the heart of the oasis, this was the first traditional house to be converted into a guest house, thus initiating this type of tourism in Oman. Spread over several levels (not recommended for the elderly), it still offers the most authentic setting. With its many nooks and crannies, it houses 15 rooms for 1 to 7 people, with mattresses on the floor, air conditioning, shared bathroom on the landings or private bathroom, as you wish. We love the pretty covered terrace nestled in the palm trees and the rooftop restaurant. Charming!

TEENA ROOM

Furnished rental €€

This house is a hidden gem. Situated in the middle of nature, it's not in the old village of Misfah like the guesthouses, but opposite it on the edge of the wadi (ravine). The panoramic view of the oasis and mountains from the terrace is breathtaking, a postcard of the Sultanate that we all dream of keeping in our memories. Superbly appointed for two, the house offers all modern comforts. Fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, living room, air-conditioning and even outdoor whirlpool bath. Meals can be delivered to order.

HARIT AL MISFAH INN

Bed and breakfast €€

Designed by a young Omani who draws his inspiration from social networks without denying tradition, this new guesthouse, housed in a traditional house that has been tastefully renovated, is distinguished by a decoration that is a little more "trendy" than the average, and even features a room with a bathtub that opens onto the landscape. We appreciate the care taken with every element of the decor, from the ornate front door to the lanterns in the courtyard... The location itself is charming, on the edge of a small square close to Rogan, Misfah's most stylish café.

By Abdullah, a native of Misfah, author of a book about the village and founder of Misfah Traditional Gallery, here is a guesthouse run with a lot of heart and decorated with objects from days gone by. 15 different rooms for 1 to 4 people are spread throughout the house, which also boasts 2 family suites for 6, one with a large private terrace. Meals are served on a large shaded terrace with superb panoramic views of the village and mountains. Abdullah will be happy to advise you on your visits!

BAIT BAITYN

Bed and breakfast €€

Rashid, the owner, has painstakingly restored this ruined house. The 10 air-conditioned rooms, with beds (not mattresses on the floor) and private bathrooms, are unpretentious but very comfortable: dark wood, natural ochre and beige tones, carpets to warm you up... a rather sober, almost chic decor. A traditional buffet is served for dinner, but there are eggs and pancakes for breakfast! A 45-minute guided tour of the oasis is offered to every guest.

MISFAH HERITAGE HOUSE

Bed and breakfast €€

Situated just before the entrance to the old village on the right, overlooking the superb oasis, this terraced house was one of the first to be rehabilitated for tourism. The well-appointed complex comprises a beautiful majilis from which to admire the view and relax, and a number of simple but comfortable rooms, all with air conditioning and shared bathrooms. In mid-2023, meals were taken on a shaded terrace and served as a small buffet of Omani dishes, but changes are underway. To be continued...

HISSEN AL MISFAH

Bed and breakfast €€

Impossible to miss this new guesthouse camped, like a citadel, at the top of a rocky outcrop leading the guard at the entrance to the old village. One immediately dreams of reaching the panoramic restaurant which offers the expected view of the oasis and the hamlet. Inside, however, the tiling breaks the charm. Although the rooms for 2 to 5 people are comfortable with private or shared bathrooms, they do not distil the local and pretty old-fashioned atmosphere of the other establishments. Choose them as a last resort or just drop in for a coffee.
