The village of Al Awabi lies on Route 13, the inland road that links the coast with the mountains and wadis. The hamlet lies roughly halfway between Nakhal (35 km) and Rustaq (27 km). Although not of great tourist interest, it is photogenic and typical of Batinah villages. The ruins of a small fort and old houses can be seen as you pass through the village. Al-Awabi and the surrounding area are also the gateway to two wadis much used by Omanis and travellers alike: Wadi Bani Kharus and Wadi Bani Awf - reserved exclusively for those with 4x4 vehicles.
