Founded by the Celts in 300 BC, "Portuguese Rome" is the ancient Bracara Augusta. The Roman Empire had established an administrative centre there and many centuries later, Portuguese Baroque reached its peak. Although not very welcoming at first glance with its many buildings, it deserves a visit to its historic centre, which contains some beautiful treasures. Today, Braga is a paradoxical city: very dynamic, it has one of the youngest populations in Europe. On the other hand, it is here that morals have remained the most conservative, with a strong hold of the religious on the public sphere.
