At the entrance to the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, Portalegre invites you to stroll through medieval streets that conceal a Baroque dimension: a palace, manor houses and pretty mansions with wrought-iron balconies. The tapestry factory is well worth a visit: many artists have brought their cartoons here, making it a great idea for a gift, but possibly an expensive one... Portalegre is also an opportunity to lose yourself in the small villages around... another rhythm, another time. Portalegre was the birthplace of the poet José Regio, and it was a good idea to dedicate a museum to him, in the house where he lived. A spectacular collection!
