This small museum town is surrounded by marble quarries, whose white heaps mark out the landscape. From the sidewalks to the public benches, Vila Viçosa is completely... marbled! The star of the place is the very spectacular ducal palace whose Renaissance façade is covered with blue marble. It was the hunting residence of the last kings of Portugal. Vila Viçosa will seduce you for its tranquility, you will enjoy strolling through its small streets or between the orange trees of the Republic Square. The traditional fairs take place three times a year, the last weekend of January, May and August. The May fair was born before the year 1500!
