O ALENTEJANO
Read moreIt is difficult to find a more central place than this restaurant, where many typical Alentejo dishes are served: carne de porco com amêijoas (pork with clams), cozido grão á alentejano (grain stew), arroz de tamboril (monkfish rice), galinha de cabidela (simmered chicken). The sopa de cação is well known and has been for a long time in Alentejo, because this fish, a small shark, was one of the few that could withstand the transport and it was not expensive... If you don't have a big appetite, don't hesitate to ask for a portion for two, that should be enough..
RESTAURANTE IMPERIAL
Read moreModest facilities, small space and those little white embossed paper placemats on the tables. This establishment doesn't look like much but it is run by a lovely couple who will make you feel at home. Here no manners, they serve traditional home-made food: fish soup, rice with duck (arroz de pato), black pork, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce... Simple but well-made and tasty food, and always the soup of the day. A small canteen as we would like to find everywhere on the corner. Highly recommended!
O ÁRBITRO
Read moreHere's a good family-run address that's faultless in terms of preparation, welcome and service. In this soberly decorated room, it's all about Alentejana cuisine: octopus salad, roast lamb's head, fried fish... A rather tempting menu with dishes served by a dynamic team. If you want to eat local without the fuss, this white-and-yellow restaurant is sure not to disappoint, and is often fully booked... which is a good sign!
