Alte is a bucolic village surrounded by hills about twenty kilometres from the coast and the tourist fervour. This charming hamlet is considered one of the most typical of the region with its traditional fireplaces and whitewashed houses. The river Alte used to turn the wheels of the nine mills of the village. Nowadays, only the one in Aboboda is visible. Famous for being the birthplace of the poet Cândido Guerreiro, the village bears within its walls the memory of the Portuguese playwright and his most emblematic poems. Don't miss the small Queda do Vigario waterfall, an ideal place to refresh yourself
