Lagos is a picturesque city with a glorious history and photogenic beaches. Capital of the Algarve from the 16th to the 18th century, Lagos has managed to preserve its splendid period residences and intact town center. Today, menus are available in all languages in English restaurants, bars and pubs. Rock formations, sea caves, sandy beaches (including Meia Praia) and a gastronomy renowned throughout the region are just a short stroll from the pedestrian streets. Lagos is also a good base for exploring Sagres and the western end of the Algarve.
