Aunay-sur-Odon was wiped off the map by Allied bombing in June 1944 - in an attempt to halt the German advance - and unfortunately has retained nothing of its 2,000 year old history. There is no need to hope to find old stones here, it is a new town, a "little America" as it was called in the 1950s. Aunay, the first town of the Reconstruction, was able to rise from its ashes between 1947 and 1950 thanks to the Marshall Plan and the tenacity of its inhabitants. To discover the fascinating history of Aunay, the audio-guided tour offered by the tourist office pays a beautiful tribute to this martyred town.
