A charming medieval town, overlooked by a citadel that has been transformed into a pousada, documentation centre and museum space. This castle was the headquarters of the Order of Santiago in 1423. Palmela owes its name to Cornelius Palma, a Roman consul of the 1st century, its founder. A strategic place of the past centuries, its fortress offers a unique panoramic view of the whole Setúbal peninsula and the Tróia peninsula, as well as from Lisbon to the Atlantic coast... From Lisbon, on a clear day, you can see its hill, which is part of the Serra da Arrábida, from the banks of the Tagus. The tourist office is located in the castle
