It is the smallest of the inhabited Wadden Islands with about 1,000 inhabitants. The only village on the island, also called Schiermonnikoog, was established around 1760. The island is famous for its flora and fauna and even in the height of the tourist season, the birds will always outnumber the visitors. So much the better. Most of the island is a national park. Schiermonnikoog will satisfy all nature lovers who will be able to recharge their batteries in a unique setting of wild landscapes. Please note that the island is closed to cars.
