A 40-minute train ride from Amsterdam Central, Hoorn is a pleasant stopover. Its rich patrician houses and trading posts are reminiscent of the time of colonial conquests and great trade. The gabled facades and orange colors are characteristic. This small port has seen illustrious sailors set sail for distant seas. In 1616, Captain Willem Schouten and his men left the waters of Hoor. They were the first to pass the difficult Cape Horn. The explorer Abel Tasman dropped anchor here to discover Tasmania and New Zealand in 1642, as well as Jan Con, the founder of the East Indies colony.
